Health and nutrition have forever been a huge part of my life and constituted the basis for everything I believe. I graduated from the University of Vermont in 2004 with a B.A. in Psychology and minor in Spanish. After working in the marketing industry for a couple of years and feeling unfulfilled, I went back to school for nutrition and dietetics. At that time I was rehabbing a family house, and while taking nutrition classes quickly realized that I wanted to pursue nutrition professionally.
I followed this goal and became a Registered Dietician (RD) in 2012 after completing the dietetic program (DPD) at Point Loma Nazarene University in 2010, and a distance dietetic internship program through Utah State University. This experience exposed me to various populations and settings related to health and nutrition, all laying the foundation for my practice.
During my time at PLNU I became drawn to the holistic aspect of health and nutrition. I attended the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN) based in New York in 2010, accredited by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, and got certified as a Holistic Health Counselor (HHC). IIN faculty members include many esteemed luminaries of the nutrition world such as David Wolfe, Sally Fallon, Deepak Chopra, Dr. Andrew Weile, Dr. Barry Sears, Annemarie Colbin and Dr. Joseph Mercola. IIN integrates all the various dietary theories — combining the knowledge of western and eastern philosophies with modern concepts like the glycemic index, the Zone and raw foods.
I have always been drawn to extreme age groups, babies and much older ones. Now more than ever before with people waiting longer to try and conceive, I am confident that what you feed your body has a direct correlation with how your body operates. After editing a book with Amy Ogle MS, RD on preconception and working with women at this most critical and exciting time in their lives, I am drawn to working with women preparing their bodies to conceive. I have completed a comprehensive fertility seminar series with Acupuncturist Amelia Hirota, among other fertility specialists. Beyond that, nutrition, wellness and exercise are of utmost importance during and after one’s pregnancy. I do not limit myself to individuals in that category however. I am committed to working with children and families, weight loss clients and individuals who want to improve their health.
